Dutton, Alverio Named Top Trainers for 2013

November 4, 2013 – Crane & Rigging Hot Line announces the winners for the 2013 Top Trainer Awards. William “Hank” Dutton, senior technical specialist for Travelers Insurance Co., Hartford, Conn., has been named the 2013 Top Trainer in the Corporate Category, and Angelo Alverio, senior instructor/inspector for Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau, Orlando, Fla., is the 2013 Top Trainer in the Professional Category. Read more about the winners in the November 2013 issue of Crane & Rigging Hot Line.

Top Trainers are recognized in two categories. Corporate Trainers were represented by crane manufacturers and rigging suppliers, service providers, and general contractors and specialists in crane rental, rigging, and machinery moving. Professional trainers primarily work for a training company.

Nominated by their peers, coworkers, and students, eligible trainers must have been actively engaged in crane, rigging, lifting, or construction safety training between Aug. 1, 2012, and July 31, 2013. Nominees are judged by editors from Maximum Capacity Media and representatives of the Association of Crane & Rigging Professionals (ACRP), which endorses the Top Trainer program. On a scale of 1 to 10, judges rate trainers on the following:

  • Use of innovative or hands-on instruction;
  • Encouraging peer or corporate accountability;
  • Evidence that training was successful; and
  • Overall impact on the students, environment, or industry.

Scores are then tallied and averaged to determine the winner.

Top Trainers receive complimentary registration to the 2014 ACRP General Assembly, held May 13-16 in Nashville, Tenn. During the meeting, winners will be recognized with an engraved commemorative trophy.

Winners also receive scholarships, made possible through funding provided by Top Trainer Sponsors. This year, sponsors included CICB and The Crosby Group (Platinum); Liebherr, Rigging Institute, and Slingmax (Gold): Altec Sentry, Overton Safety Training Inc., Morrow, and Terex (Silver); and American International Crane Bureau, First Sling, Industrial Training International, and Stephenson Equipment Inc. (Bronze). Scholarships may be used by the recipient for furthering their own or a student’s education.
